You already know what techniques you can use to improve your memory, and you already know what your learning styles are.
Now you just need to know what rules to follow and what habits are going to help you when you want to learn anything.
General rules for effective learning
The following rules function as levels that one reaches as one improves.
Learn individually
Internalize and memorize what you are learning. Take the time you need to understand the concepts, and apply the techniques that you think are most convenient for you. Create your own conclusions and reflections about what you have learned.
Learn in a group
Practice sharing what you have learned with others. You can make use of the Feynman technique to help you achieve this. Remember that explaining the topic will make you understand it even better.
Learn collaboratively
It is when you take a step further than just explaining the topic. By letting other people question you and share their point of view you gain even more knowledge. At the same time, there are studies that show that arguing increases the acquisition of knowledge by 50%
Habits for effective learning
Create a plan of courses or topics that you will follow
Having a clear path to follow helps you concentrate better and not get distracted. At the same time, it sets you a final goal to pursue.
Avoid distractions
Identify places, environments and people that tend to distract you and schedule your study time in places and times where you can avoid these distractions.
Avoid doing several things at the same time (multitasking)
The brain creates connections more easily of what you are learning when they are related to each other. Multitasking by definition divides the tasks on which your brain focuses and therefore reduces its effectiveness in creating these connections, making it difficult to retain the concepts you are learning.
Schedule your study time
Define times for study and rest. It’s easier to get your brain used to working at a set pace than to force it to focus at random times of the day.
Study everyday
Make sure that every day you learn something new. Even if some days you study less time, always set aside space for it. This will help as a review as well.
Give yourself rewards for each progress you make
Incentives are important to move forward. It is important that you also allow yourself to do things that you enjoy, so if you like to watch a series, go out somewhere or play video games, give yourself that as a reward once you complete your goal for the day.
Exercise
Exercising helps maintain high levels of oxygenation for your brain. By definition that will make you work better.
Rest
The mind is not made to be focused 24 hours a day. As you may remember from the types of thinking, it is good to give your brain time to rest so that it finishes creating the new connections in your brain. If you have time, recap what you learned that day before going to sleep, so that your brain can work on those connections while you rest.
So you already know everything you need. I hope you already have something in mind where you can apply this. Now rest for a while. Let your brain form the connections you need.
